Why social disconnection belongs in the same clinical conversation as blood pressure, cholesterol, and sleep — and what the WHO’s landmark report just confirmed.
I score high on this loneliness test due to being the primary caregiver to my wife who has been bed bound with MS for the last 15 years. So I definitely fall into the situational loneliness category.
Frank, I’m so sorry. Being a full-time caregiver for someone you love, especially for 15 years, can be one of the most profound forms of situational loneliness. What I hope you take from this is that your high score is a signal that your caregiving role has created a health burden that deserves support. Even very small, reliable forms of connection (a weekly visit, a caregiver support group, respite care when available, someone who checks in on you consistently) can matter. Caregivers need care too, and often medicine fails to see that.
Wishing you and your wife strength, and I really appreciate you sharing this here.
